Take a look at our past events.
At The Mahoning Drive-In Theater, we’re all about traditions, returning season after season, recalling fond memories while making new ones. One of our favorite traditions growing up was the yearly TV broadcast of THE WIZARD OF OZ, and we once again are excited to welcome everyone back with our own continuation of that tradition, our annual opening weekend, featuring 35mm presentations of THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) and WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (1971) on the giant Mahoning screen!

They were tales of dusty streets, with glints and squints as cold as the steel that started and ended many an argument. Their heroes may have had no names, but their Techniscope tales branded themselves in our memories, once upon a time when melee maestros like Leone and Corbucci triggered a whole new style in adventure, weaving tales of anti-heroes, villains, and bloody revenge. They took the building blocks of American westerns, adding Italian style and subversion under the Spanish skies that substituted for the American west, filling the eyes with striking imagery and the ears with unforgettable themes.
The Mahoning Drive-In Theater invites you to kick off your spurs and don your ponchos under the stars for Spaghetti Sundays, where we’ll unspool these quick-draw classics on 35mm, filling the giant Cinemascope screen once again with those vivid vistas and larger-than-life pistoleers.
Be sure to bring the whole posse out for Spaghetti Sundays, to ensure they keep chugging along, like a hijacked train full of gold!
Join us on Tuesday April 27th:
For John Carpenter's ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981)
(on 35mm)
The Mahoning Drive-In Theater is proud to announce our live-action retro Disney debut on April 30-May 1 with “DarkSide Of Disney”, a double feature celebrating the shadowy edges of the Magic Kingdom with two 1980s kindertrauma classics, RETURN TO OZ (1985) and THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS (1980), both presented on Rare 35mm, direct from the Disney vault!
The evening starts with a trip back over the dark side of the rainbow with RETURN TO OZ, starring Fairuza Balk as a disbelieved Dorthy, sent off to an institution to rid her of her “delusions” of Oz, only to be whisked wonderfully back to that enchanted land once more to save the inhabitants from the evil Nome King!
Next up, we journey deep into the fearsome forest to meet THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS, featuring Bette Davis, Lynn-Holly Johnson, and Kyle Richards (sister of ESCAPE and RETURN TO WITCH MOUNTAIN’s Kim Richards, and modern-day reality TV star herself), in a supernatural thriller about sisters who discover an other-worldly entity in the seemingly peaceful preserve behind their house.
While both films were originally rated PG and intended for family viewing, be aware that some smaller children may find aspects of this double feature scary, as did the now-adult children who remember these films to this day for the same reasons! Don’t miss the rare ability to see Disney live-action classics on 35mm on the big screen!

Saturday night’s alright for fighting, with Nic knocking out a dual role (as himself and co-star John Travolta), in John Woo’s mug-swapping action extravaganza FACE/OFF (1997), followed by the bombastic Bruckheimerness of a mulleted Cage charisma in the airborne actioner CON AIR (1997)!

Exhumed Films and the Mahoning Drive-In Theater want you to GO APE! on August 27th & 28th!
It’s been 6 years since our first GO APE event, now it’s happening again, and you do NOT want to miss it! See all five original PLANET OF THE APES films in 35mm, together for one weekend!
The 1968 film —starring Charlton Heston and written by “Twilight Zone” creator Rod Serling—changed the face of science-fiction forever, and spawned four sequels…as well as a live-action tv series and a Saturday morning cartoon. In 1974, 20th Century Fox released all five motion pictures together as a “quintuple feature” for a limited time in selected theaters. Now, Exhumed Films and the Mahoning Drive-In Theater are proudly recreating the classic “Go Ape” screenings once more with a rare presentation of all five movies, and other surprises, shown over the course of two drive-in nights! These films have everything: Chuck Heston in a loincloth! Nuclear warhead worshipping mutants! Time travel! Chimps wearing ascots! Ricardo Montalban in a turtleneck! Paul Williams, John Huston, and Sheriff Lobo in the same film! And of course, lots of damn, dirty apes! Come out and join us for this rare event! All humans are welcome!
Friday, August 27th:
PLANET OF THE APES (1968) - A world gone mad!
BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES (1970)- The bizarre world of "Planet of the Apes" was only the beginning...
Saturday, August 28th:

CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (1972)- The most awesome spectacle in the annals of science fiction! The revolt of the Apes!
BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES (1973)- The final chapter in the Apes saga. The most suspenseful showdown ever filmed as two civilizations battle for the right to inherit what's left of the Earth!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 15th: Sergio Leone's THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY (on original 35mm).

On October 22-23, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater gets in the Haloweenie spirit with The Weird World Of Tim Burton, two nights of darkly delicious delves into demented dreamlands!
On Friday night, we get snippy with EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (1990), in which Johnny Depp plays a mechanical man from a dreary world who comes face to face with sunny suburbia, in a heartwarming, hairstyling, visually stunning comedy.
Then, sharpen your scythe and beware the sound of the sinister gallop as the Headless Horseman stalks SLEEPY HOLLOW (1999), with only Johnny Depp as an intrepid investigator standing between the townsfolk and a barbaric beheader.
Saturday begins with a nightmare….of holiday cheer and chills! Henry Selick’s classic stop-motion animated adventure THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993), written and produced by Tim Burton, weaves Christmas and Halloween together into a musical fantasy family favorite sure to give goosebumps, be it from fright or frost, with a musical score and lead performance by Danny Elfman. *Incredibly Rare 35mm screening!
The night concludes in grandly ghoulish style with Michael Keaton in BEETLEJUICE (1988), the horror comedy classic that reintroduced the world to “The Banana Boat Song” and teaches the valuable lesson, when your house is haunted, maybe calling another ghost in to fix things isn’t the best idea.
All films screen on 35mm, with Tim Burton previews each night.
**TOMBSTONE (1993) on 35mm**
Corral your deputies and OK a ride to The Mahoning Drive-In Theater on Sunday, October 24th for our Discount Disney Nights 35mm screening of the western classic TOMBSTONE (1993)!

Cosmatos (RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II, COBRA) directs a stunning array of stars (both movie and tin) including Kurt Russell, Bill Paxton, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliott, Dana Delaney, Powers Boothe, Michael Biehn, Charlton Heston and more in this stylish telling of the events that led up to the legendary Gunfight At The O.K. Corral, and its bloody aftermath, writ large across the CinemaScope screen.

First up is the classic 90s big screen adaptation of THE ADDAMS FAMILY (1991), featuring Ricci as that sweet sicko Wednesday Addams, daughter of dementedly delightful Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia as Morticia and Gomez!
After a brief intermission, we continue with the friendliest ghost ever to grace the silver screen, CASPER (1995), who becomes Christina’s poltergeisty pal!
Both films presented on 35mm. Gates open at 6pm, show starts at 7:30.

The Mahoning Drive-In Theater presents “Janet & Jamie”, the perfect prep for spooky season! It’s a mother-daughter dance of dark delights as we present a 35mm double feature of two iconic scream queens who know their way around a butcher knife, Janet Leigh and her iconic offspring, Jamie Lee Curtis!
First up, mama knows best as Janet engages in a little Arizona embezzlement and scoots off for a quiet night's sleep at the Bates Motel in Alfred Hitchcock’s PSYCHO (1960)!
If your slashed nerves survive that ruddy respite, prepare for MORE of the night HE came home, with HALLOWEEN II (1981)! Michael Myers continues his Haddonfield Halloween murderthon, following Jamie Lee to the hospital and slashing their overstaffing problem.
We invite you to enjoy themed eats, music, photo ops and our Annual Costume Contest!! So Come Dressed To Impress for a chance to win fabulous prizes!

THE HOWLING (1981) - 40th anniversary screening of Joe Dante’s 1981 werewolf classic!
